Bud Shaw

Howard “Bud” Shaw is a lifetime resident of Hamilton Township and loves being a Ranger.  Bud was born and raised in Obetz and moved to the Hamilton Meadows in 1971 after graduating from Hamilton Township High School (Class of 1970) and marrying his high school sweetheart and fellow Ranger Vicki (Evans) Shaw.  Bud is the youngest of 8 siblings, all Hamilton Township Rangers.  Members of the Holden/Shaw family have attended Hamilton Local Schools since 1943. This includes his grandsons.

Bud participated in Ranger football, basketball, and track and field starting in 7th grade. As soon as his children were old enough, Bud began coaching youth sports in the township.  When financial problems threatened the youth football program, Bud became the founding member and President of the South Columbus Athletic Association Little Buckeyes, giving township youth a place to learn, grow, and play. 

Bud would watch all three of his sons grow up to play for the Rangers and achieve success in football, cross country, wrestling, baseball, and track and field.  Bud’s involvement in Ranger Athletics continued to grow during and after this time.  When attending a track meet to watch his sons Buck and Scott run, timers were needed, and Bud didn’t hesitate to help.  Over 10 years later, Bud finally passed on his duties as head timer for the HT Track and Field team.  When Scott was finished with middle school football, Bud was asked to volunteer at Hamilton Middle School on the football coaching staff.  Bud remained on staff for 12 years, coaching with Ron Derry and Ted Williams.  Bud’s support of the football program didn’t end with coaching.  When his coaching came to an end, he wanted to continue to support the program, so he volunteered to run the clock on Friday nights for over 5 more years. 

Bud spends most of his free time now going to Ranger athletic competitions.  If you want to know how one of our Ranger teams is doing, ask Bud; he can tell you.  He also continues to support Ranger Athletics through driving a bus to competitions, camps, and meetings.  All told, that is 57 years that Bud has been a Ranger!  From being a 7th grade football player, to a Hamilton Township Swim Team Grandpa, and everything in between,  Bud loves the township, and loves the Rangers!
