Verla “Hooch” Haynes

Verla graduated in 1955 prior to Womens Varsity Athletics at HTHS. However, despite this challenge, she competed in intramural volleyball and basketball, winning championships her sophomore, junior, and senior years. Since high school, Haynes has taken her love for athletics to the next level. Haynes served as a player, coach, and organizer in several leagues in basketball, softball, bowling, and golf.

Some of her most notable accomplishments include two MVP honors playing on the first women's ASA slow pitch softball team earning many League Championships and Six State Championships; Bowling in four national tournaments; and playing in golf leagues around the Columbus area for approximately 25 years. Verla is retired from General Motors after 32 years of service as a supervisor.
