Jeff Sewell

Jeff Sewell is a lifetime Ranger having been born and raised here in Columbus, Ohio. He is a 1984 HTHS Graduate. Jeff is one of four boys (Brian, HTHS class of 1978, Gregg, HTHS class of 1981 and Tim, HTHS class of 1986) born to Sharron and Harold Sewell.  They were one of the first families to purchase a home in the newly-created Hamilton Meadows in the early ‘60s.  Jeff developed a love for sports at a very early age. He carried his passion into his middle and high school years at Hamilton, while competing as a member of the football, basketball and track and field teams.

While at Hamilton, he met his wife, Susan (HTHS class of 1983) and they married in 1991.  They decided to stay in Hamilton Township to remain close to family and friends. Jeff and Susan are the proud parents of Hannah (HTHS class of 2013) and Hailey (HTHS class of 2017). It was during his daughters’ years at Hamilton that Jeff became more of a fixture at various athletic events. In 2005, Jeff and a couple of his friends were asked to take over as “The Chain Gang.” They’ve been at it ever since. Football Friday Night is definitely a highlight for them.

When Jeff’s oldest daughter decided to run track at Hamilton Middle School, he was approached by the coach about helping to run some home events. “It’s simple,” he said.  Jeff and his family quickly became the “Sewell Long Jump Pit Crew,” and have been measuring, raking, and tallying winners for a decade.

Being co-owner of The Obetz Dairy Queen has been a great way for Jeff to continue his support of our schools. Not only does he hire Hamilton Township students to work in their store, but it’s not uncommon to find Jeff passing out free Dilly Bars to our teams at various sporting events. During the annual “Volley for the Cure” game, you will find Jeff selling those now famous Pink Dilly Bars to help raise funds for The Susan G. Komen Foundation. His efforts didn’t stop there because he expanded it to blue Dilly Bars for our Autism Awareness basketball game to raise funds to benefit local autism charities.

Jeff was raised to always think about others and help when there is need. He has succeeded in doing that as both a son, a father, and a community member in the place he will always call home…Hamilton Township.

Jeff is very honored to be receiving the Ranger Athletic Award of Merit, and thanks everyone in his Ranger Family for the honor!
