Carl & Jean Jankowski - Award of Merit
Reside: Hamilton Meadows
Carl, a native of Buffalo, New York, and Jean, born in Webster Springs, West Virginia, met more than 60 years ago while they were working at nearby Lockbourne Air Force Base and married in 1957. In 1962, they decided to move closer to their workplace, and relocated to a new housing subdivision called Hamilton Meadows.
Jean served as a room mother at Hamilton Central Elementary in the 1960s, and Carl began working as a scoreboard operator for HTHS football in 1972.
They became active in the Hamilton Local Boosters, faithfully volunteering their time as concession workers for football, basketball, and track and field at all grade levels. For nearly 40 years, they have cooked hot dogs and pizza, popped the popcorn, and heated hot chocolate for Hamilton Township athletes, parents, and fans.
Since then, Carl and Jean have been a familiar couple at Hamilton Township events, athletics and otherwise. Year in and year out, they continue to give of their time to clean the concession stand, stock the coolers, prepare food, wash dishes, and work the counter for upcoming games, meets, and other local school events.
Carl and Jean Jankowski have produced two generations of students at Hamilton Local Schools. They are the parents of Saundra (HTHS class of 1983) and Joseph (class of 1976), and are the grandparents of Daniel Belcher (class of 2007), James Jankowski (class of 2012), and Gregory Jankowski (class of 2015).
