Markita (May) Suttle, M.D.

Markita Suttle, formerly Markita May, was raised in the Hamilton Meadows by her parents Robert and Phyllis May. Markita rounded out her kindergarten through twelfth grade HLS career with a stellar high school performance, earning seven letters in softball, basketball, and track & field. In basketball, Markita was a team captain and the team co-MVP, while earning all Mid-State League and Honorable Mention All Central District honors. As a track and field athlete, Markita earned two league titles, two district titles, one regional title, and two All-Ohio finishes in the 100-meter hurdles. During her senior year, Markita was a team captain, lead the team in scoring, set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles, and was named the team MVP. Perhaps most impressively, Markita balanced her athletic success with a 4.0 GPA throughout her career at Hamilton Local Schools and graduated salutatorian of her 1999 class.

Markita attended Otterbein University on a full scholarship. Competing in track and field, Markita was a 10-time All-OAC performer, 3-time NCAA National Qualifier, team captain, and team MVP. She was also a 6-time All-OAC Academic performer and was an NCAA Academic All-American. In 2001 she was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Most Valuable Field Athlete. In 2003 she was the Dorothy McVay Award winner, presented to the Most Valuable Female Athlete at Otterbein. She was a two time NCAA All-American for her performance in both the 55-meter and 100-meter hurdle; set Otterbein’s 100-meter record; and became Otterbein’s first female track & field All-American. Markita remains the 100-meter hurdle record holder at Otterbein. She graduated magna cum laude from Otterbein University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology.     

Markita received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Wright State University School of Medicine in 2007, completed her pediatric residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in 2010, and became a board-certified pediatrician. During residency, Dr. Suttle received several accolades including Resident of the Year and Critical Care Resident of the Year. She was also named Pediatric Chief Resident from 2010-2011. Most recently, Markita was selected for a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at Nationwide Children’s and will complete her training in 2014.

In 2005, she married her college teammate Matthew Suttle of Applecreek, Ohio. Matt is a teacher and serves as a cross country and track and field coach for Dublin City Schools. They currently reside in Westerville, Ohio with their three miniature dachshunds Chloe, Reese, & Harley.
