Paul Orr

Paul E. Orr was born July 8, 1923 in Columbus, Ohio, and attended Greenfield McClain High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball under legendary coach Gerald “Red” Armstrong.

He attended The Ohio State University but was called into active military duty where he spent the next three years. Sadly, during this time, his brother James was mortally wounded. Upon separation from the military service in March 1964, he returned to OSU to complete his degree in education in 1948 and then a Master’s Degree in 1956.

His first teaching assignment was at Hamilton Township in 1947 where he taught classes in Science and Physical Education. He was also assigned coaching duties in football, basketball and baseball. Upon becoming Head Football Coach in 1950, he went on to have a record of 28-7 over the next four years. That allowed the Rangers to be co-champions of the Franklin County League in 1951 and outright champions in 1953.

In 1954, he returned to his high school alma mater to teach and coach and in 1960 became the Principal. In 1972, he left Greenfield and became the Superintendent of Fairfield Local Schools in Leesburg, Ohio, where he retired in 1978.

Mr. Orr has been married to his wife, Evelyn, since 1948 and have four children and eight grandchildren.
